Justin Ditch

Justin grew up in South Louisiana surrounded by music, art, and horses, in a family with deep roots in New Orleans jazz, professional dancers spanning three generations, and a fine artist and restorationist. So one might say he comes from a creative family.

His taste was built across a pretty specific range: Mel Brooks taught him nothing is too sacred to skewer, Godzilla is still his favorite superhero, and he spent too much time in his early teens trying to sync Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon with The Wizard of Oz, explaining more about his relationship to sound than any degree program.

Justin studied at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Arizona, where he built a foundation in audio engineering, then went back home so he wouldn't melt to hone his sound skills for film and television at the University of New Orleans. For the past decade and a half, he's worked as a production sound recordist and music playback operator on episodic television and feature films across the Gulf Coast.

After ten years of running Sound Hard, a full-service audio company in New Orleans, Justin is continuing his mission of guiding people and productions to achieve the best quality sound in whatever project they're working on. That's where CN8 Sound comes in. Named for Cranial Nerve Eight, the nerve that carries both hearing and balance to your brain. It's a reminder that sound shapes more than what we hear. It affects how we feel in a space, and in visual media, it's the quiet balancing act that holds a world together. Justin is sensitive to sound in ways most people aren't, which is maybe why he's so careful about how he shapes it for others.

He also co-produces The Film Folk Lore Podcast, a podcast exploring the stories behind cinema. And he's building an artist management practice, helping musicians navigate a rapidly evolving industry.

Production sound recordist, mixer, music playback operator, producer, manager. The titles change, but the quality of work stays the same.
